ADULT INSTRUCTION

We offer adult instruction privately and in group seminar format, at our studio and at offices, businesses,  and hospitals.

Group Classes
Group classes can be arranged at the  Ardmore, PA Studio if there is sufficient interest.  Individual instruction is available by appointment. Call to find out if and when adult classes are forming.

Cost: $270 for 6 weekly group sessions
Contact us by email or at (610) 649-1400  for more information.

We find that 6 hours of in-class instruction allows for the time needed to significantly improve most adult's handwriting skills. This in-class time is supplemented by the students' commitment to practicing skills learned in class between each class.

Course Objectives:

  • Increase legibility of print or cursive styles
  • Increase fluency and speed
  • Reduce pain in fingers or hands when writing
  • Improve pencil grasp for greatest efficiency of movement

Course Content

We instruct adults in the cursive style because it's faster and more efficient than printing and it's easier to improve. More adults use this style of handwriting when given a choice.

The first class would be devoted to a brief assessment of the students' pencil grip; that is, how they hold the pen or pencil when they write. Additionally, other important performance components would be reviewed including use of the non-dominant hand, position of the wrist when writing, posture, slant of letters and so on. The first day of handwriting instruction will start with learning or refining letter formation of the initial group of letters and successive classes will continue until we complete letter formation instruction by the end of the fifth hour of class instruction. The final one hour is devoted to improving speed and fluency while retaining quality. Finally, we give out certificates of achievement to those who complete the course.

We provide 1 inch binders complete with class work and homework materials, pencils and grippers, as needed.

Course Curriculum

The handwriting curriculum that we use is called Handwriting Without Tears, written by Jan Z. Olsen. The author has given us permission to adapt this curriculum to adult students and we have found it to be highly effective. This approach allows for the focus of legible handwriting as a building block for each adult's unique style.

Custom Seminars for Employers

Handwriting errors can be extremely costly in terms of employees' non-productive time, misrepresented communication, medication errors (for physicians), and the like. The cost of improving employee handwriting can be an economical investment.
